Man, what a day! If the theme of yesterday was just burning through ammo and shooting some cool guns, today it was checking out a lot of the equipment that goes on those guns (and of course the gear every hunter and sports shooter is going to want badly in 2012!)

We saw some really great stuff from Bushnell, including 4 high definition models of their popular Trophy Trail Camera line. Surefire showed off a variety of tactical lights and weapon lights, including a green laser version of the X400 we know a lot of people have been clamoring for.

We got a chance to see the new Leupold VX-R Zombie Rifle Scope, for any of you out there preparing your ultimate bug out bag, and see a prototype of the Burris Eliminator III laserscope – something you’ll see Trevor was really excited about! There’s so much to cover – be sure to watch our daily recap video to see what we covered today. Full length interview videos will be coming as soon as we can get them out!

    -Alessandro

Alessandro is super busy on the floor of SHOT Show, but he gave me the lowdown on some of the great products he saw today, so I’m going to give you a bit more info so he can continue interviewing the representatives from the show.

Bushnell is Bringing High Definition to Trail Cameras

GearExpert Bushnell Trail Cameras at SHOT ShowAlessandro briefly mentioned the new additions to the Bushnell Trophy line of trail cameras.  The biggest advancement is the improved video quality, as the cameras are now in HD, but there are other great features added to the updated Trophy cameras.  A nice touch is the addition of a date, time, temperature, moon, name and GPS stamp, so you know all the details of the conditions for a picture that has an amazing buck.  It’s fully programmable from 5 to 60 second recording intervals, and the battery lasts for 1 year!  You can choose widescreen or full screen images and video as well, so there will be a lot of versatile uses for these trail cameras.  All these features and it has the best camera Bushnell has put in a trail cam yet!

Leupold Takes on Zombies with a New VX-R Scope

Leupold doesn’t want you to be amongst the walking dead when the zombie plague is upon us, so they’veGearExpert Leupold Zombie Scope at SHOT Show come out with the VX-R Zombie Riflescope.  To be clear, the VX-R isn’t just some novelty scope.  It has some awesome features, and Leupold didn’t hold back when it came to quality.  As with many of Leupold’s Scopes, the VX-R Zombie Scope allows you to make quick and easy finger click adjustments, the glass is stellar, and it’s waterproof.  There’s a good chance you’re going to be running for your life from a zombie horde at some point, and if you get a little wet before turning around to quickly take down a zombie you’re going to be glad your rifle scope is waterproof.  Check out the pic.  There are a bunch of neat little design touches that really make the VX-R Zombie stand out.  I really like the insides of the lens caps.  Don’t forget that zombies love BRAINS!!!

Vortex Takes Aim at the Rangefinder Market

GearExpert Vortex Rangefinder at SHOT ShowVortex has been designing super tough optics for a while now.  They always give you a phenomenal value, with many scopes having features you would normally only find in much more expensive models.  That’s why is great to see them get into the rangefinder business! The Vortex Ranger 1000 is a great compact rangefinder.  As the name implies, it will find you a range up to 1000 yards, but it’s also small enough that you won’t mind carrying it along on a hunt.  A really nice feature that we liked is the belt clip.  As it’s a pretty rugged rangefinder you don’t need to worry about always keeping it in a case or storing it in your bag.  The Ranger 1000 will be right there on your hip; ready at a moment’s notice!

State of the Art Shooting with the Burris Eliminator III

I love that you can see the genuine excitemGearExpert Burris Eliminator III at SHOT Showent from Trevor for the Burris Eliminator III Riflescope.  Well, there’s good reason: this is a sweet scope with a ton of cool features!  First, the glass and construction of the Eliminator III is outstanding.  That’s always necessary for successful shooting, but what really sets the Eliminator III apart is the technological advancements inside.  This laser riflescope ranges up to 1200 yards, and the bullet drop compensator (BDC) works at any magnification!  That’s huge, as it allows shooters to accurately adjust for distance much quicker than with traditional methods.  This Burris Scope not only compensates for distance, but you can also input the ballistic coefficient of your bullet for maximum accuracy.  The new X96 reticle makes it easier to compensate for wind, so you shouldn’t have any trouble hitting your target.  Clearly, Trevor is happy about it.  I bet you will be too!

There were a few more cool products shown off yesterday, but words won’t do them justice.  We’re working on some full videos from SHOT Show so you can see all the great features of new products by Safariland, ATN, Steiner and more!  Stay tuned.  There’s a lot more coming!

Yesterday was a HUGE Day at SHOT Show, and we have a lot of great pics.  We will have more in-depth news about the great products shown here at SHOT Show, but for now take a look at these exclusive photos of the cool gear.

We talked to Leupold about their new rangefinders and trail cameras.  Simmons has some great new trail cameras as well, and Butler Creek showed off some great gun slings.  Uncle Mike’s displayed fantastic new holsters and belts, while Bushnell was showing their cool new spotting scopes and binoculars.

My favorite, of course, is the Leupold VX-R Zombie Scope, and we got some really good photos of it, so it is totally worth a look, and Redfield, Safariland and Fobus all had some great gear on display.

Check out all the photos, and come back here to GearExpert by OpticsPlanet in a little while as I’ll have some more in-depth coverage from the floor of SHOT Show Day One!

  • SHOT Show Live Twitter Feed and Day Two Preview!

Day Two of SHOT Show is here, and it’s looking to be quite the event!  Alessandro is going to be Tweeting LIVE from the floor once again, so bookmark this page to see all the news as soon as it happens!

What’s in Store for Day Two of SHOT Show?

First up, we’ll be speaking with ATK, who is the parent company of a number of great brands including BLACKHAWK, Weaver, Champion Targets and RCBS, so we’re no doubt going to see a ton of great new holsters, duty gear, targets (Champion Targets actually makes some REALLY cool zombie targets, and since there has been zombie fever at SHOT Show thus far I’m hoping for more undead goodies) and more! We’re big fans of ATK brands, and I’m excited to hear about what they have on display this year.

After ATK, we’re going to meet with 5.11 Tactical.  They’re one of the top manufacturers of tactical gear like belts, boots, tactical vests, watches, backpacks and more, so there could be a lot of new products shown.

Next up we’ll be talking with SOG, who make some of the best specialty knives in the world, so no doubt their display will be sharp.  *crickets*  Alright, I tried.  Perhaps they’ll have a cool new multi-tool or hunting knife.  Look for a live Tweet around 4 o’clock sharp (I’ll stop) to see what SOG has for SHOT Shot this year.

Toward evening we’ll be talking with Trijicon.  We already got to briefly see and play with the new Trijicon TARS scope, and Steve said the glass was fantastic, so we’ll get some more info on that later today, and check out what other updates they have.

We’ll be closing out today by meeting with two great brands for storing and carrying your firearms: GunVault and Galco.  GunVault makes top quality high tech biometric gun safes, and I’m hoping to see the latest advancements for keeping your firearms secure.  Galco hardly needs my introduction, but they make some of the finest leather holsters on the market today, with a class, style and performance level that’s almost unparalleled.  But just because they love using leather in their holsters doesn’t mean Galco lives in the past; they are constant innovators, adding the best new features with every successive generation of holsters.  I’m betting they’ll show us some cool new gear this year.

Okay, enough of my preview.  Alessandro’s SHOT Show Twitter posts are embedded below, so keep checking back to hear about the brands listed above, and we’ll try to throw in some surprises as well.

  • SHOT Show Media Day Products from KRISS, Trijicon and EOTech!

    Jan 17 • News • 8699

The news just keeps pouring in, with more details on a few of the guns and scopes our GearExpert team got their hands on at the range on Media Day.  Some of the gear below was mentioned in Alessandro’s Twitter posts, and there have already been more today for Bushnell and Leupold, so keep checking on his Live Updates from SHOT Show, and I’ll give you a few extra details on the cool guns and optics he sees.

KRISS Super V Vector SMG at SHOT Show

First up, we have the KRISS Super V Vector SMG .45 ACP.  You can see Steve taking a few shots with this bad boy in the Media Day Recap Video, so you know it looks cool, but what makes this KRISS SMG such an amazing gun?  Well, it’s extremely light and easy to control.  Anyone who has ever fired an SMG can tell you that the recoil makes it difficult to maintain accuracy while firing off a high number of shots.  KRISS innovated a few cool new features to minimize the amount of recoil that hits your shoulder.  The KRISS Super V System (KSVS) redistributes the force from recoil downward, so you will feel as much as 60% LESS recoil than with a similar gun at the same caliber.  This makes the SMG easier to operate, and your barrel won’t elevate as much, keeping you on target and minimizing the need to constantly reacquire your target.  As SMGs are designed for speed and efficiency, this improvement is huge for performance in the field.

Take a look at the photo at the top of the page.  Steve is shooting the KRISS SMG with an EOTech Holographic Weapon Sight mounted on it.  These red dot sights have incredibly fast target acquisition, which makes them a perfect match for a SMG that keeps you on target.  If you want to get on target faster I suggest checking out our exclusive OPMOD EOTech MPO-II Holographic Weapon Sight.  It comes with a G23 Flip to Side Magnifier for long range shots, and it’s night vision compatible.  If you combine it with the KRISS SMG you’re going to have one amazing setup.

Zombie Hunting & More with EOTech & Leupold

Speaking of EOTech, a new Holographic Weapon Sight that was designed for a very specific purpose was revealed: the EOTech XPS2-Z ZombGearExpert.com Leupold Zombie Riflescope At SHOT </a srcset=ie Stopper Holographic Weapon Sight.  I think we can all agree that having at least one gun sight in your collection to fight zombies is an absolute must, and the Zombie Stopper is pretty cool.  I should have a more complete review of this red dot sight after SHOT Show is over, but for now note that it is very similar to the EOTech EXPS-2, but with a special reticle that looks like a biohazard warning symbol.  No doubt you’ll survive the zombie apocalypse if you have one of these cool red dot sights.

There is another possible option for taking down a zombie horde, which Alessandro just took a picture of today.  It’s the Leupold VX-R Zombie Rifle Scope.  I’ll have a bit more info on it tomorrow, but keep in mind that two of the biggest names in riflescopes have developed glass SPECIFICALLY for zombie hunting.  If that isn’t a confirmation that zombies are coming, then I don’t know what is.

EOTech also showed off the new EOTech G33 Magnifier.  I know I just mentioned the G23 Magnifier that comes with the OPMOD MPO-II, and this is a very similar red dot accessory, but instead of a flip to side mount it features a push to side mount, which may make it more responsive.  We haven’t gotten to play with the G33 yet, so we can’t verify it’s performance, but we love working with EOTech because of the care they put into every new product, so no doubt it has very high quality.

Long Range Accuracy from Trijicon TARS

GearExpert Trijicon TARS at SHOT ShowOne final new product I have a bit more info on from SHOT Show Media Day is the Trijicon TARS.  TARS stands for Tactical Advanced RifleScope, and it is a fantastic scope for long distance precision shooting.  Steve spent some brass with it, and he said the quality of the glass is outstanding.  It has 3-15x magnification, an illuminated reticle and the glass is fully multi-coated for maximum light transmission.  Trijicon produces tough, high quality optics that have been tested on battlefields around the world and are loved by many shooters, so this new scope will no doubt be hard to keep in stock when it ships later this year.

Media Day at SHOT Show had some really interesting new gear, but this is just a taste of what we’ll have in the coming days.  Stay tuned as we bring you more products, news and editorials on the great gear from SHOT Show!
