Keeping a Sharp Eye on Vixen Riflescopes

    Nov 25 • News • 8244

My friends ask me consistently about scope recommendations. One of my go-to scope lines comes from Vixen, some of the premium optics on the market. They’re tough, they’re powerful, and they’re available now at OpticsPlanet.com.

    Vixen VI Series Riflescope 2-8x32

Short range shots call for the Vixen VI 2-8×32 Riflescope

Take, for example, the VI Series of riflescopes. These are fantastic beginner- to mid-level scopes, if you or anyone you know is looking to mount premium optics on their firearm without breaking the bank. For a short range shot, Check out the 2-8×32 model, which features multi-coated lens systems and, like every scope in the Vixen line, waterproof tubes that will last for years.

    Vixen VI Series 3-12x40 Riflescope

Need more range? Get the Vixen VI Series 3-12×40 Riflescope.

If you need a bit more of a long game, you’d do well to go with the 3-12×40 scope. With a Duplex reticle and a lightweight body, you can calculate your angle on the fly without feeling weighed down. Plus, the 3-12x magnfication lets you get in a mid-range shot or zoom out for that buck in the distance. Plus, you’ll get a generous field of view even at the higher magnification.

Vixen VII Series 6-24x58 Riflescope, Side Focus

Vixen VII Series 6-24×58 Riflescope will step your game up!

Want to step up your game even more? It’s hard to beat the VI Series, but the Vixen VII scopes are also spectacular. Grab yourself the 6-24×58 model and you’ll almost always be able to nail your shot no matter the distance. The lenses will resist scratching, and you’ll be able to fine-tune your magnification for the exact shot placement you’ve been seeking.

There are plenty more Vixen riflescopes to choose from, too. I’ve been recommending the Vixen line left and right since I discovered them. Their durable build, crystal-clear optics and wide angle views make them a great choice for hunters or a day at the range. Be sure to let me know if you’ve had any experience with the scopes or want to pick one up yourself – not that I need more incentive to talk them up to my friends!

Trevor Prepares for the Vortex Dream Hunt Trip

    Nov 22 • News • 3488

Trevor, one of the product experts at OpticsPlanet, is off on the hunt with the winner of the Vortex Dream Hunt for Two Sweepstakes! He, along with some of the other OpticsPlanet crew, are headed out to North Platte, Nebraska to the Hidden Valley Outfitters. Check out the video to see some of his preparations Trevor made.

It’s important to properly prepare for a hunt – that means packing all the essentials, plus planning for any contingencies. Trevor is no stranger to the hunt, but it’s always good to run down the checklist. In the video, he’ll step you through the pieces of gear he’s taking along. Learn about some new products, or use it as a guide to your next hunt!

Trevor’s packing a Remington 700 with an XLR Evolution Chassis and a fully adjustable stock. He’s more familiar with the AR style, so he’s loving the pistol grip set up on his primary firearm.

    Vortex Viper HS-T 4-16x44 VMR-1 Riflescope

Trevor’s taking the Vortex Viper HS-T.

The highlight of his loadout is the new Vortex Viper HS-T 4-16×44 Riflescope, which will give him the range he needs. Of course, you can get it yourself – and why wouldn’t you? They’re great scopes – waterproofed, tough, and perfect for lower-light shooting. Trevor’s scope is mounted on Vortex 30mm Riflescope Rings.

Trevor would also like to remind you that you never know what might happen in the field. That’s why he’s also bringing along his Springfield XD-45, a gun that we’ve already seen he clearly favors. He’s got to haul all of this, so he’s packing everything in a Pelican 1750 Waterproof Rifle Case. When you want to protect your gear, this is an absolute essential. It’s waterproof, crushproof, and the #1 way to make sure everything travels safely. He’s also got an OPMOD HRC Hybrid Rifle Case tucked away inside, for more compact carry of his firearms when he’s out in the woods.

    Badlands Superday Pack

Smaller gear goes in the Badlands Superday Pack.

You’ll also see Trevor taking along some other gear to test out, including a pack from Badlands and a Puma ELK Hunter Fixed Blade Knife. Don’t forget the OPMOD Binoculars, either!

Clearly, Trevor is the man you want to talk to about hunting prep. So what do you think of his preparation?

OPMOD EOTech Sights – Exploring the Popularity

    Nov 20 • News • 11099

The OPMOD EOTech EXPS-2 Holographic Gun Sights, like most EOTech gear, are some of the more popular sights at OpticsPlanet. Why is that?

Well, they’re Made in America, for one.

    opplanet-eotech-opmod-exps2-holographic-red-dot-sight

The OPMOD EOTech EXPS2 Holographic Weapon Sight is extremely popular at OpticsPlanet.

It’s a mark of pride for many shooters. Buying an American-made sight ensures quality construction and years of use, while also demonstrating a support for companies that in turn support the U.S. Plus, it’s just good to know where the product is coming from. More and more, I find myself checking for the “Made in America” stickers on things I buy.

But there’s more to the popularity of the EXPS-2 than the country of origin.

The EXPS-2 from EOTech and OPMOD represents the collaboration of years of experience researching, developing, and providing for military and law enforcement personnel. That means that the EXPS-2 is consistently held to the extraordinarily stringent standards of waterproofing, shockproofing, and withstanding the tests of battle. When civilians purchase EOTech sights, they may never introduce them to these extremes – which makes them all the more tough, rugged, and ultimately desirable.

Not to mention the optics! The holographic imaging used in these OPMOD EOtechs is second to none, and allows you to keep two eyes open while shooting. I don’t know about you, but I find that being able to keep both of my eyes open while shooting provides a level of comfort and freedom that I love. Plus, the sights are compact – taking up at most 2.75in of rail space, thanks to a shortened base. This makes them more compact than the wildly popular EOTech 550 Holosight and comparable in construction to the XPS-2 on which the EXPS-2 is based. However, depending on your needs, any of these sights will suit you – I find it’s a matter of taste.

    opplanet-eotech-550-a65-308-hws

The EOTech 550 Weapon Sight is another popular model.

It’s fairly clear to me why these sights are so popular. After taking a new OPMOD EOTech EXPS-2 Sight out to the range for a little target practice, I borrowed a friend’s AR-15 which has had an EXPS-2 mounted on it for several months. The thing has taken a beating, let me tell you – but sure enough, it’s still in working order! That’s a good investment.

By the way, from now until January 31st, you can get a $60 mail-in rebate with select EOTech Holographic Weapon Sights, including the EXPS-2. If you’re interested in other EOTech products, check out the ones that come with a $40 e-Gift Certificate from now until November 28th!
