• SureFire Tactical Flashlights Are Also Great For Fourth of July Camping!

    Jul 2 • News • 6244

SureFire is one of those brands you hear a lot about from various areas where quality illumination is needed.  Their flashlights are used for a lot of different activities, from law enforcement and military operations to home security and camping.  The quality of their lights has been trusted by professionals for years because they provide bright, clear light without hot spots or rings.  This means you get a nice, tight and powerful beam.  No power is wasted.  You get a lot of light without sacrificing battery power.

On of the most durable and trusted SureFire Flashlights is the SureFire G2X Tactical Single-Output LED 200 Lumens Flashlights.  As the name implies, this is a flashlight designed for and employed by tactical operators.  This is fitting, as SureFire largely grew to prominence because of their assistance to the Los Angeles Police Department’s SWAT Team during the Olympics back in 1984.  SureFire has continued to produce some of the most durable and high performing lights in the world, including the G2X.

The SureFire G2X Fits in the Palm of your Hand!

But just because it’s an ultra durable flashlight that police officers and soldier love that doesn’t mean it won’t be an outstanding choice for your camping or outdoors activities too! There are actually a number of reason the G2X is perfect for families.  First, the durability I’ve already mentioned makes it essentially kid-proof.  I had a cheap little flashlight a few years back that I allowed a cousin to use for “just a minute.”  I found it in the middle of the yard the next day utterly destroyed.  I’m not actually sure how the little guy could have done this much damage to a flashlight, but no doubt it became a baseball bat, sword handle or some other imaginative implement within seconds of me handing it over.  I didn’t bemoan the price of the flashlight (like I said, it was cheap), but I was on a trip and couldn’t get another one and was forced to borrow flashlights for the rest of the trip.

This wouldn’t have happened if I had a SureFire G2X.  The Nitrolon body is insanely tough while still being lightweight.  It won’t be affected by abrasions or corrosion like lesser flashlights (kids love to drop things in wet grass), and the anodized aluminum bezel is just as tough as the body.  As it’s intended for self defense and tactical purposes you can bet it will hold up to quite a bit of shock.

The next nice feature is fundamental for any flashlight.  And that’s brightness.  The G2X provides 200 lumens of light.  That’s an awful lot, and will give you more than enough light for almost any situation.  With kids around, one of the reasons I use my flashlight a lot is to calm their fears.  The dark woods can be a scary place, and I want to put fears to rest with the flick of a switch.  The bright light will also enable you to do what needs to be done, so if you’re in charge of fireworks this Fourth of July it’ll help you see the fuse for a quick and safe show.

SureFire G2X Flashlights come in multiple Colors too!

It’s not just the amount of light that separates the G2X though; it’s also the efficiency.  This SureFire Flashlight doesn’t waste any light by employing an LED light bulb and a precision reflector to aim all the light in the correct direction.  SureFire is known for the tightness of their flashlight beams.  When no light is wasted you can be sure you’ll see further and clearer.  With all this efficiency you’ll enjoy 200 lumens for about 2.5 hours.  As it runs on easy-to-find and carry 123A Lithium batteries you’ll light for a good long time.

A great flashlight can be used for a wide variety of activities, and the SureFire G2X Tactical Flashlight is certainly qualifies as a great flashlight.  Use yours this Fourth of July and celebrate America with plenty of light!

Steiner Predator Xtreme Binoculars – Beauty & Comfort

    Jul 2 • News • 6223

I recently got to take a closer look at some of Steiner’s best Binoculars, the Predator Xtremes.  There are a few different models in this line of hunting binoculars, with various magnifications and objective lens sizes, but I checked out the 10X42mm Predator Xtreme Binoculars.  There are a ton of features about these binos that are worth mentioning, so I’m going to do my best to break them down point by point.

Ergonomic Binoculars for Long Term Comfort

To be fair, I wasn’t able to spend hours glassing the field for game with the Predator Xtremes, but I hardly needed to hold them to know they’re comfortable.  Check out the pic below of the thumb grooves on the bottom of these binoculars.  They’re nice and wide and soft enough that you won’t mind holding these up for hours on end.  The rubber-armored body is easily to grip and feels both strong and soft at the same time.

To make the Predator Xtremes all the more comfortable to use, the center focus wheel is nice and big.  I was able to easily reach it with either hand.  I’ve tried out a lot of binoculars that have a ton of fantastic features and smart designs yet still have a small and hard to reach focus wheel that truly diminishes their comfort and usability.  I’m really happy with the big focus wheel on the Xtremes.

Tough?  Oh, These Steiner Binoculars are Definitely Tough

I already mentioned the comfort level you’ll get from the rubber armor of the Predator Xtremes, but the cushioning this gives the binoculars is really outstanding and will keep them from damage due to a majority of the bumps and jostles they might go through.  But toughness comes from a lot of things, not just the rubber body, and the Steiner Predator Xtremes have some other great features that provide strength.

I really liked the simple yet effective lens caps.  There are two sets of caps, one for the ocular lenses (the ones held up to your eyes) and some flip down caps for the objective lenses (the lenses aimed at the target, their size is the ’42mm’).  The ocular caps were nice and sturdy and would definitely keep the lenses clean and safe.  They remove completely though, so you have to be careful where you put them.  The flip down objective lens caps were a little better, though while they flip down easily, they take a bit more effort to put back in place.  You can see both sets at the top of the page, and the objective lenses in place below.

    Goodness Gracious that Great Glass!

Last but not least, I found the image the Steiner Predator Xtreme Binoculars produced was very good.  I was using them in very bright lighting conditions though, so while the image was nice and clear, I can’t tell you how well they’ll perform in low lighting conditions.  They’re meant to be hunting binoculars though, so I think you’ll have an easy time spotting your game so you can take a quick shot.

All in all the Steiner Predator Xtreme Binoculars impressed me.  I’ll admit the feature that stuck in my mind the most was the quality of the construction and their durability.  These feel like binoculars that will last for years and years without deteriorating in quality or performance.  Try to find that in many other binocular.

  • Top 3 Ways the Hogue AR-15 Grip and Field Survivor Kit Saves the Day!

    Jun 28 • News • 4108

One of the biggest hassles on the battlefield, hunting grounds or at the range is having your weapon fail.  Reasons abound for why this might happen, but it can be downright impossible to get to a spare set of tools when you’re in a jam.  Rummaging through a bag or pocket isn’t as convenient as simply having the tools close at hand, which is why Hogue developed their AR-15 Rubber Grip and Field Survivor Kit.  This puts pretty much all the gun cleaning tools you need in the field right at your fingertips so you can access them when you need them.  That’s great, but with a dozen different tools at your disposal, what are the 5 Best Uses for the Hogue AR-15 Grip & Survivor Kit?

    1. Remove a broken shell with the shell extractor – Out of Spec shells can break and lodge in your AR-15.  Get them out in a snap with the extractor!
    2. Clean your bore with the wire brush, carbon scrapping tool and cable – Lube up the gun with with the ampule for one lube too so you’re in tip top shape!
    3. Adjust the front sight for spot on accuracy – Simple, quick and effective.  How can you NOT have a front sight adjustment tool?

I could come up with a ton of different things you can do with the Field Survivor Kit, but I’m sure to miss some because there are just too many possibilities.  Having a flat head screwdriver should be more than enough to give you tons of options for fixing a variety of types of gear in the field.  The innovative design that stores this kit in the grip really blows my mind.  Your AR-15 will never be the same again.  And this isn’t just some handy tool, it’s sure to be essential for staying both safe and effective, regardless if you’re at the range or the field.  The Hogue AR-15 Rubber Grip and Field Survivor Kit is both simple and innovative, and I am sure you’ll swear by it as soon as you try it out.

And the winner is… – Nikon Shooting Event Day 2 Pictures!!!

    Jun 27 • News • 4520

Well, it looks like the Nikon Spot On Competition has come to a close and a lot of very cool guns and scopes were used by Trevor and Kate.  They made quite a few great shots, and though they weren’t the big winners of the whole competition, they did have a ton of fun with some outstanding gear.  They’ll be back from Utah in a few days and I’ll get all the details to you as soon as I get them, but for now check out all the pictures below.

I’m really happy to see Trevor got some shots in using our new Edge OPMOD ZRG+ Shooting Glasses.  We’re really proud to have our own Shooting Glasses.  They’re a great way to keep your eyes safe while also looking pretty cool.  It seems our OPMOD gear was really helpful for Trevor and Kate.  They used the OPMOD PAC Bag as well to get their equipment from one area to another.  The bag has a ton of great pockets and is super tough, but the real star of our OPMOD line for the trip has to be the OPMOD Professional Range Bag, which Kate shot twice to see how it held up!  (It kinda worries me that she decided to double tap the bag.  I have to remember not to make her mad:)

We’ll have a video of the bag getting shot, but for now check out the photos.  The big winner of the Nikon Shooting Competition was Bret Dolph, who beat out Bruce Odel in the final round.  The guns shot in the finale were:

    • AR platforms in .22LR
    • AR15 in 5.56
    • AR10 in .308.

    Sweet.

The shots of the 50 caliber bullet and the ATVs they used to get from one station of the shooting range to another are my favorite.  I’m really jealous they got to have so much fun on this trip!  I’d love to try out some of these guns.  The Nikon Spot On Shooting Competition sounds like it was a blast.  Check back soon for more info on how it went and exclusive videos!
