• Vortex Viper HS and Crossfire Rifle Scopes Video from SHOT Show!

    Feb 6 • News, Videos • 3142

In our first Vortex SHOT Show Video Interview Alessandro talks with Vortex’s Mark Boardman, who runs him through a couple new rifle scopes from Vortex that we can expect to see a bit later this year.

New Additions to the Vortex Viper HS LR For Long Range Shooting

The first scope Mark shows us is the Vortex Viper HS LR 6-24x50mm FFP Rifle Scope.  This is a new addition to the Vortex Viper line, which is already a fantastic line of rifle scopes, so this new addition is welcome for it’s wonderful long range effectiveness.  That 6-24x magnification is fantastic for long range shots, but it’s still versatile enough for many hunting situations.  The lens coatings will give you a high degree of light transmission, which is good as the big 50mm objective lens is going to gather a lot of light.

The new Vortex Viper HS LR Scopes should be available in late summer or early fall.

New Vortex Crossfire Scopes Improve Across the Board!

The Vortex Crossfire line is a really great value line that gives you a lot of bang for your buck.  They pack a number of great features into a lower priced scope, but Vortex thought they could do better.  There are a number of big improvements to allow those on a smaller budget enjoy the benefits of higher end scopes without breaking the bank.  The lenses are clearer and sharper, so you’ll see more detail and have an easier time tracking your target, the construction is tougher than ever, which every hunter knows is incredibly important, and the eye relief has been extended to make them easier to use.

The new Vortex Crossfire Scopes from SHOT Show should be available this Spring, so keep your eyes on OpticsPlanet to get one as soon as they’re released!

  • Leupold RX-1000i Rangefinder Video from SHOT Show!

    Feb 6 • News, Videos • 3480

I’ve written a bit before about some of the great new items Leupold displayed at SHOT Show.  From the very slick Leupold VX-R Zombie Scope to the brand new Leupold Boone & Crockett Gold Ring Spotting Scope, Leupold had some great new gear at this year’s show, and we’ve been really excited to have full video interviews with their representatives.  Well, there’s one more cool new product from Leupold’s SHOT Show display: the RX-1000i Rangefinder.

This new Rangefinder just recently released, but it is so great that it helped Leupold win the OpticsPlanet 2011 Brilliance Award for Rangefinder Brand of the Year!  There are a number of reasons for these accolades.  The new engine inside these laser rangefinders has been in development for the past three years, and the RX1000i is the first to enjoy the superior processing power and improved accuracy of this engine.  Even more impressive is the speed of the new processor.  In the past, rangefinders take about one or two seconds to give you a reading.  No more.  The processor in the RX1000i will give you an instantaneous distance measurement, so when you’re in the field searching for elusive game and that prize winning buck finally comes into view, you’ll have an exact distance right away so you can take your shot before it disappears.

Another benefit of the RX1000i’s new processor is that it’ll give you mil-radian holdover values, so if you have a mil-dot reticle these rangefinders will give you yet another cool way to get on target fast.

Outside of the great new processor, the Leupold RX1000i uses a new display that will help you range in those twilight hours of dusk and dawn.  Normal rangefinders have an LCD display.  While they’re easy to read, they also wash out colors and diminish resolution.  The RX1000i uses an OLED display, which greatly boosts the resolution and light transmission you’ll enjoy.

If you want to get your own Leupold RX1000i, we have two models available right now at OpticsPlanet.  The regular Leupold RX1000i Compact Rangefinder is a great choice for most hunters and archers, but those who are interested in having an inclinometer for achieving greater accuracy when your target is above or below you will want to check out the Leupold RX1000i TBR Compact Rangefinder.  Both models have that great new processor and the fantastic quality that has come to be associated with Leupold.

Be sure to watch the Leupold Rangefinder SHOT Show Video above, then visit the product pages for all the specs!

  • Redfield Revenge Rifle Scopes from SHOT Show – Accuranger Rangefinder Scopes!

    Feb 3 • News, Videos • 6387

In our Redfield SHOT Show Video Alessandro talks with Tim Lesser about the great new Redfield Revenge Rifle Scopes.  There are a number of different models coming out that will complement those already available from OpticsPlanet.

While there are a number of great features on these Redfield Scopes, the most interesting is the built-in rangefinder on the AccuRanger models.  He explains how to use this new system, but it’s going to be really useful for those hunters who are taking shots from long distance.  Besides the increased accuracy you’ll enjoy, the Redfield Revenge scopes also allow you to keep your eye on the target at all times.  If you’re switching back and forth between a rangefinder and your scope you may lose sight of the game, and I know a lot of hunters are frustrated when they’ve been glassing the field for hours only to miss their chance to take down a great buck because they were switching optics.

This SHOT Show Redfield Video is definitely worth watching, as the new Revenge Scopes have to be seen in action!

  • Uncle Mike’s Reflex Holsters, Competition Belts and Shotgun Caddy from SHOT Show!

    Feb 3 • News, Videos • 3556

In our second Uncle Mike’s SHOT Show Video we got to take a look at the great new Uncle Mike’s Holster and their new Belt System.  I really like these new designs, and I’m betting a lot of you shooting enthusiasts are eager to try the out!

Uncle Mike’s Reflex Holsters Draw Faster and Smoother than Ever Before!

The Uncle Mike’s Reflex Holster was designed with gross motor movements in mind.  These movements have been learned from early childhood and are, therefore, the most natural to perform.  Many of the best retention systems on holsters have some sort of switch, which is pressed by your thumb or finger.  With enough practice these systems can become second nature, and muscle memory is super important to having a quick draw, but Uncle Mike’s wants to make it easier to draw by making the motion more natural.  Most of us think of drawing a pistol as a smooth motion, by simply grabbing the grip and pulling up.  Pressing a button or flipping a thumb snap adds a second to this draw that could make a big difference in some situations.  The Uncle Mike’s Reflex Holster doesn’t have a button to press.  You simply make a very slight twist on the handle and pull naturally.

You can see this in action in the video, and it looks incredibly easy.  I’m betting the Reflex Holster is going to be very popular in 2012.

Comfort to the Extreme with the Uncle Mike’s Competition Belt System

Uncle Mike’s Belts are already fantastic, with a wide variety of uses and plenty of versatility for hunters, police officers and competition shooters.  But one thing many shooters would prefer is a more comfortable belt.  Uncle Mike’s have heard this feedback, which is why their new Competition Belt System focuses on comfort.  As you go from one stage to another in competition with three guns on your hip, there’s going to be a lot of shifting equipment that can get uncomfortable and affect your focus and performance.  This new belt from Uncle Mike’s is foam padded all the way around, with MOLLE webbing for extra room for carrying your gear.  I really like how the MOLLE webbing allows you to place your gear where you prefer, which should help enhance your performance in competition!

Liam also quickly shows off the new Uncle Mike’s Shotgun Shell Caddy, which fits perfectly with the new belt, and is compatible with a number of different systems.  Very cool stuff.  Take a look at all this great new gear in our second Uncle Mike’s SHOT Show Video!
